We're proud to announce that Symphony has signed up to Gold Membership of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT), contributing to the protection of Yorkshire's wildlife and wild spaces.

Who are the YWT and what do they do?

Since 1946, the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has been a voice for Yorkshire’s iconic wildlife and breath-taking landscapes.

YWT is a charity dedicated to conserving, protecting, and restoring wildlife and wild places in Yorkshire. Their vision is for a Yorkshire that is abundant in wildlife, with more people having a genuine and meaningful connection with nature.

For over 70 years, they’ve been protecting Yorkshire’s wildlife and wild places, working across land and sea, from hills and valleys to beaches and city streets. Wherever you are in Yorkshire, you’re only approximately 20 miles from one of their nature reserves.

The business membership scheme offers a range of benefits to assist the journey to safeguarding a wilder Yorkshire. Members are offered the opportunity to demonstrate company commitment to wildlife and the environment, and the scheme offers a step to meeting corporate social responsibility (CSR) targets. Moreover, it is a chance to engage with employees for a local cause, improve mental and physical health and embed a culture of CSR across teams.

Why have we signed up?

We want to play our part by limiting our impact on the planet. With our membership fee, the Trust will be able to complete necessary work required to maintain the wild outdoor spaces surrounding us. By joining YWT, we’ll be actively supporting projects in our local community.

Sustainability has been at the forefront of our operation for many years now. Did you know that our sustainable credentials include:

  • All our timber-based materials are FSC® certified.
  • We offer four ranges that are made from 100% recycled board.
  • Our cabinet chipboard is made from a minimum of 50% recycled material.
  • All our cabinet legs are made from 100% recycled plastic.
  • All our paint to order ranges are painted with water-based paints as opposed to solvent-based paints.
  • All our kitchen door and worktop corner protectors are manufactured using 100% recycled pulp or 100% recycled plastic.
  • None of our manufacturing waste is sent to landfill.
  • Symphony led the industry in 2007 installing a boiler which is fed with wood waste from manufacturing to create fuel for the site. This has negated the need for a gas supply to our Barnsley HQ.
  • Since April 2021, 11.25% of our car fleet are now hybrid electric.
  • As of May 2021, all our literature is now produced by a method of carbon balanced printing.
